Freelance Budget Matters Ebook

I've been developing this workshop for some time (remember this post???), and I've given it twice now.  About 1000 people have suggested I write a book about it, so here it is!   Very short and sweet.

To be completely honest, I feel a bit like this guy.... Just sub "I WROTE A BOOK!" whenever he says "I'M ON A BOAT."   (Not safe for work!)

 

Tiny is beautiful

I'm kind of obsessed with tiny space living.....makes me nostalgic about my Airstream days.   Watching vids like this makes my 550sqft feel palatial!

Like this guy who lives in 78 square feet...  what???!!

But I really like the stories about people who are building their own tiny homes...

I love how these people are taking control of their own lives, deciding that they are not going to be slaves to a big mortgage, or that owning STUFF is less important than living a quality life.

Very inspiring, don't you think?

Tim Burton at MOMA

I am not the biggest fan of Tim Burton (lord knows that would be a difficult title for which to fight!) but I certainly appreciate his attention to detail and how fully his work is realized.... every piece is it's own AMAZING world. Anyhoo... here is a fascinating interview with the man that includes lots and lots of stills of his drawings and movie work. Worth the 7 minutes, I say.

German Romantic fever

Can I say something obvious? Why, yes. Yes, I think I can. And I will. :)

Beethoven is astounding. I've been watching "Immortal Beloved" on Netflix today, loving Gary Oldman, and remembering why I used to have Beethoven Piano Sonatas on permanent play when I was working desk job.

Yes, this is the world's most famous piano sonata. (is it? maybe) But just listen to it, folks!! I love this scene in the movie (see pic above)... Beethoven thinks he is alone in the house and he puts his ear right onto the instrument he is playing, trying desperately to hear the music. Tears. me. up.


If you are big ole nerd like me, you can go to YouTube, type in "Moonlight Sonata" and begin a comparision of the 800 versions there. The various interpretations are kind of astounding.... compare Glenn Gould with the one I've posted, by Barenboim.

Summer movie madness

Last night a pal and I went to see this:



It was charming and visually stunning and forced me to unexpectedly hold in sobs (both happy and sad) for almost the entire 90 minutes. Survey says: go see it.

Little story about this clip:

When I was in college I dated a guy who was very very funny and wonderful in so many ways, but not the most emotionally demonstrative guy (except when it was important to be. aww). ANYWAY, one day he was really sick with flu and decided to camp out in his dorm room for the day. I made sure he had some cold medicine, ramen noodles at the ready, and a movie to keep him company before heading off to my theory class. I returned a couple of hours later.... poked my head in the door... and found him sitting in a blanket cocoon with tears streaming down and big goofy grin plastered across his face.

"What's going on?" I asked, puzzled and a little concerned.

"It's just.... so.....BEAUTIFUL!" he blubbered.

And then he forced me to watch the part where the penguins sing "They're getting ma-aa-aa-rieeeeed now," about 12 times.
And then I got him to the infirmary, pronto. The end.
