Today I got a big monkey off of my back: I actually spent some quality time with my Carmen score and thought seriously about cuts I want to make in the production I am directing this fall.
Cutting an opera is a little painful. Even if the opera is a montrously large beast. In this case, it simply has to be done. Carmen is a HUGE chorus show and there simply are not enough hours in the day for the chorus in Amarillo to 1. learn all that music and 2. learn all the blocking. Yikes. just thinking about this gives me palpitations.
