Lohengrin

This afternoon, I decided to finally settle down and put in some serious quality time with the opera that will take up most of my fall: Wagner's Lohengrin. I don't report for work officially until Sept 21, but it is a huge piece and I already feel behind in the learning process. Alas, alack, here I am.

Anyway....sometimes we have the best intentions, and things still just don't work out, ya know? My wandering mind does not want to venture into this dense territory. Here is the first bit of a synopsis I found on Wikipedia:
King Henry the Fowler has arrived in Brabant where he has assembled the German tribes in order to expel the Hungarians from his dominions, and to settle a dispute between two of his subjects. These are Count Telramund, who acts as regent and guardian for the child Duke Gottfried of Brabant, against the young Duke's sister, Elsa. Gottfried has mysteriously disappeared and Telramund, incited by his manipulative wife Ortrud, accuses Elsa of murdering her brother and demands that she give him the dukedom.
Say whaaaa????? We are three sentences in and already I have a headache. Thank god there is pretty music. hehe

Ok, back to the grindstone. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

  1. I'd love to share with you my Lohengrin knowledge. Unfortunately both of the sentences won't fit in this tiny comment box!
